Scholastic Championships. Open to grades K-12 in any state (top
NYS player & team in each section are NY champions). The Saratoga Hotel, 534
Broadway (I-87 Exit 13-N, 4 miles north on US 9), Saratoga Springs NY 12866.
Free parking. Team prizes based on top 4 scores from same school; no combined
school teams allowed even if one school "feeds" another. Teams of 2 or 3 players
allowed, but are at a disadvantage. In 6 sections, each is a
6SS, G/60 except K-1 is 5SS, G/30 playing Mar 16 only.
High School, grades K-12. Entry fee $42 mailed by 2/21. Top NYS grade 9-12 qualifies for Denker Tournament of HS Champions (Dallas, 8/2-5).
Junior High, grades K-9. Entry fee $41.90 mailed by 2/21.
Elementary, grades K-6. Entry fee $41.60 mailed by 2/21.
Elementary Novice, grades K-6 under 800 or unrated. Entry fee $41.50 mailed by 2/21.
Primary, grades K-3. Entry fee $41.30 mailed by 2/21.
K-1, grades K-1. Entry fee $41.10 mailed by 2/21.
Postmarked 2/22-3/4: All entry
fees $10 more. Do not mail entry after 3/4.

Trophies to top 20 players, top 3 Unrated, and top 8 teams each section and top each U1400, U1200, U1000 (HS), U1200, U1000, U800 (JHS), U1000, U800 (Elem), U600, U400 (Elem Novice). Speed playoff if perfect score tie. Free entry to NY State Championship, Labor Day weekend 2008 (Albany), to top player each section. 1 year NYSCA membership to all NY residents who are not members.
U.S. Chess Federation (USCF) membership is also required of all players, to participate (in any USCF-rated tournament). Any USCF Membership dues are in addition to the entry fee. REDUCED RATE DUES ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE.

HOTEL UPDATE: All rooms at The Saratoga are taken on Friday night, and there are not many left Saturday night. On request, we believe the hotel will put you on a waiting list, and rooms will probably become available later when the coaches who reserved them learn they will have fewer players than they hoped for. Also, see www.expedia.com or similar websites, as some other hotels in Saratoga have availability.
Our originally listed backup hotel, Courtyard by Marriott, 518-226-0538, was sold out but as of Feb 8, they again have some rooms available. However, they mostly just have one king bed and the hotel has no rollaways, so you may need sleeping bags.
