What is a bye? How do I request a bye?

PLEASE NOTE: For all tournaments, adjusted FIDE or foreign ratings, if higher than USCF, may be used for foreign or recently foreign players. Players must disclose FIDE or foreign ratings when entering, or may later be expelled. Other ratings such as club, league, scholastic, state or province, etc, adjusted if appropriate, may be used at our discretion if above USCF.  No rating below the latest official USCF rating, on the list corresponding to the ending date of the tournament, will be used. For 9 round events offering title norm possibilities, FIDE ratings are used. Click here for further details.

SPECIAL ADDRESS FOR DROPOUTS:

We receive so much email that it is difficult to keep track of important messages, such as those regarding players who have entered a tournament but will be unable to attend.  To simplify this task, we have set up a special email address for mail regarding such withdrawals.  It is Dropouts@Chess.US. Please use this address for the following purposes:
            1. To notify us that you will not be able to attend a tournament that you entered.  This should be done at least 2 hours before your first game.
            2. To inquire about a credit or a refund from a past tournament you entered but did not attend.

SPECIAL ADDRESS FOR PRIZES:

We have an email address for mail concerning prizes that were not claimed at tournaments. It is Prizes@Chess.US. To contact us regarding a prize due, please use this address so that we do not have to search for your mail among hundreds of other emails.

USCF MEMBERSHIP SPECIAL FOR MOST TOURNAMENTS:
1 year USCF dues with paper magazine if paid with entry.  Online at chessaction.com, Adult $54, Senior (age 65+) $48, Young Adult $33, Youth $24.  Adult and Young Adult (under 24 at expiration) include monthly Chess Life, Youth (under 19 at expiration) includes choice of Chess Life or bimonthly Chess Life For Kids.  USCF membership is required for all our tournaments. PLEASE NOTE: USCF dues paid with advance entries are often submitted to US Chess Federation closer to tournament dates.

To avoid huge ballroom rent, most of our tournaments count on having many players use guest rooms at the host hotel, and asking for the chess rate gives the tournament credit.  For all over the board tournaments, please stay at the tournament site whenever possible and ask for the chess rate.  Thank you for your help!
