The Princeton Open. 9SS, 40/80, SD/30, d30 (4-Day Option: Rounds 1-2 G/60, d10; 3-Day Option, for Under 1100 Section only: Rounds 1-9 G/60, d10). Westin Princeton at Forrestal Village Hotel, 201 Village Blvd, Princeton, NJ 08540 (Near the campus of Princeton University, about 50 miles SW of New York City and 47 miles NE of Philadelphia).  Free parking.

In 7 sections:  

·       Open Section (FIDE rated, GM & IM norms possible): Prizes: $5000-3000-2000-1000-800-600-500-400, clear win or 1st on tiebreak $200 bonus, top FIDE 2250-2399 $2000-1000, top FIDE U2250/Unrated $2000-1000. Minimum prize guarantee if entered online by 4/1 & play all 9 games (no byes): Foreign GM $1000, foreign IM/WGM $500.

·       Under 2200 Section (FIDE rated): $3500-2000-1000-700-500-400-300-300.

·       Under 2000 Section (FIDE rated): $3500-2000-1000-700-500-400-300-300.

·       Under 1800 Section: $3500-2000-1000-700-500-400-300-300.

·       Under 1600 Section: $2500-1500-800-600-500-400-300.

·       Under 1400 Section: $2500-1500-800-600-500-400-300.

·       Under 1100 Section: $1000-700-500-400-300-300-200-200.

Prize limits:

1)    Players with under 26 lifetime games rated as of April 2025 Official Rating List limited to $600 in U1100, $1000 in U1400, $1400 in U1600. $1800 in U1800.

2)    Unrated players allowed in U2200 and below with prize limits: U1100 $200, U1400 $400, U1600 $600, or U1800 $800.

3)    If any post-event Regular OTB or Regular Online rating posted 4/14/24-4/14/25, or current Online Regular Rating, was above 40 points over section maximum, prize limit $500.

4)    Balance of any limited prize goes to next eligible player(s) in line.

Mixed Doubles Bonus Prizes: best male/female 2-player team combined score among all sections: $1000-600-400. Team must average under 2200; may play in different sections and schedules; register (no extra fee) before both players begin round 2. Teams including an unrated limited to $400 prize.

5-day schedule (no 5-day U1100 section): Rounds. Wed 7 pm; Thu 11 am & 5 pm; Fri 11 am & 5 pm; Sat 10 am & 4 pm; Sun 10 am & 4 pm. Registration ends Wed 6 pm.
4-day schedule (Under 2200 to Under 1400 sections only): Rounds. Thu 11 am, 2 pm, & 5 pm; Fri 11 am & 5 pm; Sat 10 am & 4 pm; Sun 10 am & 4 pm. Registration ends Thu 10 am.
3-day schedule (Under 1100 section only): Rounds. Fri 11 am, 2 pm, & 5 pm; Sat 10 am, 1 pm, & 4 pm; Sun 10 am, 1 pm, & 4 pm. Registration ends Fri 10 am.

Half point byes OK all rounds, limit 4 (limit 2 in last 4 rounds); must commit before round 3.

Prizes not claimed at tournament are usually paid by PayPal (may take over a week).

·       $250 later online or at site until 1 hour before round 1.

·       $500 extra charge to play in Open Section for US players Under 2200/Unr USCF and Under 2100/Unr FIDE.

·       GMs, foreign IMs/WGMs in Open: Free (must re-confirm participation by 4/15).

·       US IMs/WGMs & FIDE rated foreign players in Open: $100 less than above entry fee.

·       Under 1100 Section entry fees: $80 less than above.

·       Seniors 65/over in U1400/above: EF $80 less.

·       Re-entry: $100 (no Open to Open).

No checks at site, credit cards OK. No mailed entries.

All: Special 1 year USCF dues with magazine if paid with online entry.

PLAYERS MAY NOT POSSESS CELLPHONES DURING PLAY. Please leave your phone home, in your hotel room or car, or in a bag at your table.  

For all tournaments, adjusted FIDE or foreign ratings, if higher than USCF, may be used. Players must disclose FIDE or foreign ratings when entering, or may later be expelled. Other over the board ratings such as club, league, scholastic, state or province, etc, adjusted if appropriate, may be used at our discretion if above USCF.  No rating below the latest official USCF rating, on the list corresponding to the ending date of the tournament, will be used. For 9 round events offering title norm possibilities, FIDE ratings are used. Click here for further details.

Ratings: FIDE ratings used in Open section. April official US Chess ratings used. Unofficial uschess.org ratings usually used if otherwise unrated, or to qualify for Major; (see www.peakrating.us ). Players must reveal foreign, FIDE and other over the board ratings, and these ratings, adjusted if necessary, may be used if higher than USCF.
